A Kangaroo in the outback Australia,

The petition calling for an import ban on kangaroo products to the European Union has been discussed by the European Parliament’s Committee on Petitions. Unfortunately, the Committee decided not to progress the petition further through the EU political system.

Future campaign strategies to realise a EU import ban on kangaroo products are currently being developed.

We thank everyone who wrote to the Committee for their support for the millions of kangaroos that are killed by the Australian kangaroo industry every year.

Other ways you can help

If you want to help Australia’s precious kangaroos, please consider the following options:

  • Avoid kangaroo meat. There is no ethical or safe way to obtain kangaroo meat. Just last year Russia banned imports of the meat due to the unacceptably high level of bacterial accumulation in the carcasses. Thankfully, food that is kinder to animals can be healthy and delicious. Try one of these delicious, eco-friendly dishes instead!
  • Don’t buy kangaroo ‘leather’. Even sporting great, David Beckham, refuses to wear soccer boots made from kangaroo leather, solely because of the cruelty of the hunt. There are many synthetic, cruelty-free alternatives to leather available.
  • Speak out for kangaroos. Pet food company Purina uses kangaroo meat in a number of its products. Please tell Purina that cruelty to animals is not a good ingredient for pet food.
  • Share information on the cruel kangaroo hunt with your friends and family so they can become informed.
  • Write a letter to the editor of your local paper. Australians, while outraged over the seal hunts abroad, are largely unaware of what is happening to joeys in our own backyard.
