As large parts of our country were enveloped in choking smoke, and the bushfire crisis extended month after heartbreaking month, caring people like you the world over continued to extend their hands in friendship and generosity to those in need, human and animal alike.
The situation on the firegrounds has been changing constantly as new dangers and challenges arise. But, thanks to you, we at Animals Australia have been determined to face every adversity head on and do justice to the belief and funds entrusted to us by so many of our compassionate supporters.
Right now, we’re working on a national disaster response plan to remedy the biggest system failure we witnessed in the aftermath of the fires. Only one state, South Australia, has a State emergency management plan incorporating a formal accredited veterinary response that includes wildlife. This needs to change — and, because of your support, we have a strategy in the ‘pipeline’ to do just that so that animals will receive the help that they need.
We will ensure animals in emergencies are prioritised as part of an emergency response, and never again left waiting too long for help to arrive. We’ll share more on this soon. But for now, we want to say thank you and share just some of the ways Animals Australia supporters helped fuel a life-saving response to this bushfire crisis.
