When he was just a tiny piglet, Calvin was rescued and brought to a farmed animal sanctuary where he now lives his best life.

He loves belly rubs, watermelon, and the companionship of his friends – fellow rescued animals at Edgar’s Mission sanctuary.

Watch now: this little pocket-rocket is living life to the fullest!

Pigs like Calvin are highly social, and they develop lifelong friendships. They sleep nose to nose with their closest companions and respond positively to kindness and connection, just like we do!

Calvin’s days are filled with joy—a stark contrast to what could have been his fate. For most pigs in Australia, life is heartbreakingly different.

A life most pigs can only dream of…

Most pigs in Australia endure lives of extreme confinement and deprivation. Many spend their entire lives in cramped factory farms, unable to move freely, express natural behaviours, or even feel the grass beneath their feet.

In factory farms, expectant mother pigs are denied the opportunity to build soft nests for their piglets—a vital instinct that brings them comfort during birth. Instead, they are forced to give birth in metal crates, unable to even turn around to properly tend to their young.

The suffering of pigs doesn’t end there. A recent investigation by Farm Transparency Project revealed the harrowing final moments these sensitive animals endure in gas chambers, shining a much-needed light on the hidden cost of pork, bacon, and ham products—a reality that shocked consumers Australia-wide.

Together, we can rewrite the story for pigs. Let’s create a world where all animals can live as Calvin does—happy, loved, and free.

By making thoughtful, plant-based choices, we can help ensure pigs get to live lives of joy and freedom, rather than confinement and suffering – and every meal presents an opportunity to make a difference.

Each time you reach for a kinder option, you’re sparing pigs from factory farms and slaughterhouses. And the impact goes beyond pigs—every compassionate choice helps build a world where all animals are treated with the respect and care they deserve.

Chances are, many of your friends and family don’t know how pigs are raised and killed in Australia. They also may not realise the power they hold as consumers to drive change. By sharing Calvin’s story and the reality for most pigs in Australia, you can inspire others to shape a kinder world for pigs too!
