In a dark, crowded shed, at the end of a dusty road, a baby chick wakes up. She is just two weeks old – with yellow fluffy feathers, a sensitive pale orange beak, and tiny sparkling eyes that take a moment to adjust to the low light. Her feet scratch on the filthy ground as she pushes through the masses of other chickens – thousands, just like her – to get to the feeding station.

In just a few short weeks, she will be killed to fulfil consumer demand for ‘cheap chicken’.

Her suffering may be hidden – but it is very real.

While we enjoy Christmas with family and friends, animals are trapped in factory farms across Australia. They will live and die in the shadows, because the meat and egg industries rely on caring people like you not knowing how animals are treated.

This festive season, animals need your help.

You might have seen these animals packed into trucks, on their final journey to the slaughterhouse. Perhaps you caught a glimpse of a curious feathered face peeking through the crate into the fresh air, or the flash of a pink nose as a pig senses the outside world for the very first time. These moments are rare reminders that these animals existed, before their lives were reduced to products on supermarket shelves.

They lived and died in the shadows. But there’s a way you can make a difference today.

We want to ensure that all Australians have the information they need to make informed choices, through a large scale media campaign.

We want to share the truth about factory farming on television screens, billboards, buses, trams and online over summer. This is to show caring Australians what life is really like for animals hidden in the shadows. If people knew what – or who – was on their supermarket shelves, they would likely make a different, kinder choice.

Help make this possible with a Christmas gift today.

Bigs the rescued chicken has a chance at a life of freedom and safety - her life is a reminder of what is possible when we value animals for who they are, not what their bodies produce.

The little chick from that factory farm was one of the lucky ones. Her name is Bigs. Luckily for Bigs, that morning she woke up at two weeks old would be the day her life changed forever. She was rescued from a life of suffering, to be given a second chance – a chance to dust bathe in the garden, to discover and enjoy new favourite foods (like pumpkin!), and to make friends.

Bigs has been given a chance to live. And now she’s showing the world what life should be like  outside the confines of the factory farm. Bigs’ life is a reminder that while you cannot see animals trapped in factory farms, they are in there. They exist.

Christmas is a busy time, and we want to ensure that all Australians have easy access to the information they need to make informed choices. And to understand the reality behind what, or who, is sitting on supermarket shelves.

Your gift today will go towards a large-scale, high-impact public campaign to expose the reality of life in a factory farm and to bring the suffering of animals out of the shadows. You can be the hope for animals suffering this Christmas, and beyond.
