Freedom of information has exposed the former NSW Agriculture Minister going against advice from his own department, and refusing to free hens from cages.

Shocking media reports also revealed Adam Marshall MP explicitly stated he would not support new welfare standards, before he had even seen them.

Other states are seemingly willing to agree to a national phase-out, so it could be this ‘captain’s call’ that traps millions of Australian hens in cruel cages indefinitely.

We’re so close to a phase-out of cages. After years of delays, finally State and Federal agriculture ministers are due to announce the updated Standards for how laying hens and other farmed birds can legally be treated.

Following the biggest public consultation in Australia’s history, where caring Australians overwhelmingly demanded change for hens, there’s a possibility of a phase-out of battery cages — if NSW doesn’t derail the entire process.
