Tell Labor to ‘lock it in’!

Right now, the government is finalising what could be their last budget before the next Federal election. The live sheep export phase out must be planned for as part of this process. Send a quick email to the Ministers charged with making budget decisions and tell Labor that it's time to deliver on their promise to end live sheep export.

It’s official – the live export of sheep by sea will be phased out!

Every call made, rally attended, email sent, and petition signed got the Bill to end live sheep export in front of Australian politicians. And after hours of debate, it was decision-makers in the Senate who cast the final vote to get this historic piece of legislation over the line. The live export of sheep by sea will end by 1 May 2028. While our work is not done until no animal is forced onto a live export ship, this is a monumental step forward for sheep, and for all animals. Please send decision-makers a note of thanks for their kind decision.

This is a significant opportunity for the Albanese government to prove to the Australian public that they are serious about delivering on their commitment to end the live sheep export trade.

While they’ve stated that the phase out won’t be completed during this term of government, it must begin. And for that to happen, the phase out needs to be legislated and any financial assistance for farmers must be budgeted for.

With the government making budget decisions right now, it’s imperative that live sheep export is on their agenda. Please use this form to tell the responsible Ministers that the government’s integrity on this issue is at stake and that Australians want to see that they are serious about sparing sheep from this cruel trade.

Australian sheep have suffered enough

Over 60 years, hundreds of millions of sheep have suffered in Australia’s live export trade. And the irrefutable evidence shows they suffer at every stage of the journey – on lengthy sea voyages and in importing countries where they face painful, fully conscious slaughter.

Australian sheep have suffered enough. It’s time to legislate the date and end this trade in animal cruelty. Please urge the government to make a plan for the phase out in this year’s budget.

TAKE ACTION
At sea and in importing countries, animals suffer at every stage of the live export journey. It's time for the Albanese government to solidify its promise to the Australian people and legislate the date to end live sheep export.
