Most caring people would never knowingly buy cage eggs. But more than half of all cage eggs never reach a carton — they’re baked, blended, and hidden in everyday foods.

Every hidden egg can mean a hen still living her entire life in a cage…

What she longs for is beautifully simple: to forage, build a nest, dust-bathe in the sunshine, and flap and stretch her wings. These small joys are at the heart of a hen’s natural world.

Cages take all of this away.

All she’ll ever know is the feeling of wire beneath her toes. The exhaustion of seeking comfort and privacy she’ll never be able to find. And the sight through her cage bars of rows and rows of other cages, crowded with hens just like her.

Even more heartbreaking is that cages are only one part of the story.

Across every commercial egg system — even free-range and organic — male chicks who cannot lay eggs are considered ‘wastage’. They are routinely killed within hours of hatching, through methods like gassing or maceration, and it is entirely legal.

Choosing egg-free options doesn’t only help free hens from cages — it’s a compassionate choice for every chicken who deserves a life worth living.
