Urge your MP to end greyhound racing at Wentworth Park.

Public parks should be used for the community — not cruelty.

Wentworth Park is a rare piece of public land in the heart of Sydney — land the NSW Government has already promised to return to the community. Yet it continues to be used for greyhound racing and has become one of the state’s most dangerous tracks. With the racing lease now expiring, the government has an opportunity to honour its commitment and stop dogs being exploited for gambling profits. Please urge your MP not to renew the greyhound racing lease and give Wentworth Park back to the people.

Greyhound Racing NSW lease will not be renewed at Wentworth Park!

Thank you to the 700+ supporters who emailed the NSW Government asking them not to renew the lease of Greyhound Racing NSW. The current Wentworth Park lease will expire in 2027 and the precinct will be transformed into shared green space as part of the NSW Labor Government’s new Wentworth Park plan. This decision is an important step towards a future where greyhounds are no longer put at risk for gambling profit. If you would still like to help greyhounds today, one meaningful way is to support our work through our animal protection merch — like our 'Be kind to every kind' tee. Every dollar helps fund our campaigns to create a kinder world for greyhounds, and for all animals.

The greyhound racing industry is bad news for dogs, wherever it occurs. But at Wentworth Park, it’s especially dangerous.

In just the first six months of 2025, 191 dogs were injured at the inner-city racetrack — the second-worst injury toll of any track in New South Wales. Analysis by the Coalition for the Protection of Greyhounds also shows that in just five race meetings during November 2024, one dog was killed and 28 were injured, including several major injuries.

These aren’t isolated incidents. They reflect a system where dogs are routinely harmed for the sake of gambling-driven entertainment. For many people in NSW, this so-called sport feels deeply out of step with community values — and with what public land should be used for.

Public land should serve the public good

Wentworth Park sits in the heart of one of Sydney’s most densely populated areas — a rare stretch of public land with enormous potential. And it seems the NSW government already agrees.

In its Pyrmont Peninsula Place Strategy — released in 2020 — the NSW government outlined a 20-year vision for Pyrmont and the surrounding suburbs, including Wentworth Park. Central to this vision is making the areas greener, more open, connected, livable and sustainable.

For Wentworth Park specifically, that would mean replacing the greyhound racing track with sporting fields, picnic areas and parklands — spaces the whole community can enjoy.

This parkland should be for the benefit of the community, not an industry that has admitted to killing up to 17,000 healthy dogs each year, has been shown to live-bait, and causes problem gamblers real suffering.

You can help return Wentworth Park to the community

The track’s lease is due to expire in 2027 – meaning MPs are deciding right now whether to return this land to the community or hand it back to Greyhound Racing NSW

Many MPs won’t be aware that the greyhound racing lease is expiring, or that Greyhound Racing NSW is seeking an extension. They may not even know about the previous government’s commitment to restore Wentworth Park to a space the whole community can enjoy.

Please send a message to your state MP, urging them not to renew the greyhound racing lease and honour the government’s commitment to return Wentworth Park to the people.
