Help End Jumps Racing in Victoria

Help End Jumps Racing in VictoriaEleven horses have died so far in this year's Victorian jumps racing season. Help us call for an end to this unnecessary suffering.

Another horse was fatally injured during jumps racing in Victoria this past weekend, bringing the tragic total to eleven healthy horses who have died during this Victorian jumps racing season.

In jumps racing, horses are forced to jump a series of metre-high fences at fast speeds. This type of racing is 10 to 20 times more dangerous for horses than flat racing, and many of the injuries sustained during jumps races can be horrific.

Victoria’s Racing Minister Rob Hulls announced last week that the government will be conducting a review of jumps racing after this season has finished. But that's not soon enough. Now is our best chance of getting jumps racing banned.

Please help us call on Rob Hulls, the Victorian minister for racing, to prevent any more unnecessary deaths by ending jumps racing in Victoria.

Here are a few suggested points for your letter. Please put them in your own words if you wish to use them:

  • Thank him for his concern and taking action to review jumps racing.
  • Ask him to suspend jumps racing immediately to prevent further injuries and deaths.
  • The 11 deaths this year prove that changes to the hurdles are having little effect and horses are still at high risk of injury and death.
  • The only change that will work is to have jumps racing banned.
